Bargain Supermarket Fruit Trees | initial thoughts & repotting
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 місяці тому
Whilst at the supermarket the other day I saw these small fruit trees at a bargain price, I decided to buy 2 of the varieties I’ve not heard of before. Honeyberry & Aronia. I’ve later found out the Aronia is commonly called Chokeberry. I’ll be giving you my initial thoughts and repotting both the trees, I decided I needed to bare root them in the end. Anyway, thanks for watching.

    Howdy, Kit!👋 I certainly did enjoy this video because I continue to learn so much I need to know. Thanks for answering the question about feeding.😃 Can one put a fruit tree inside too big of a pot? I put my mulberry in a huge pot and it's hard to keep down in size! The pot is 2 feet high and the same across.

    • @GrowWithKit
      @GrowWithKit 4 дні тому

      Hi Valorie I’m happy you found it helpful 😊thank you. The size of the pot is really used to control speed of growth, a huge pot would be almost like planting in the ground. If you prune the roots and cut back a lot of the growth we slow everything down but you can still plant it back in the huge pot.

    Hi. Your trees are looking lovely. We have one about 10ft but isnt too full, and would like thicker. Is it ok to prune this time of year, or is it best to wait until Autumn. We havent done anything to her since planting in the ground last year. Wanted to ensure she was settled

    I think the WD-40 is probably not very good for any wildlife. No matter how much you wash it the chemical will still be in there.

    • @GrowWithKit

      I know, I didn’t think at the time, I only use vegetable oil now it works better than the WD40 anyway.

    What plans do you have for leaf size reduction? I have 2 rowans growing in the ground, slightly thinner trunks than yours but leaf size is an issue. Of course it's not an ideal leaf size species, but it's a fun project!

      It’s not needed on my greenhouse because it slopes slightly and the water flows nicely, I guess you could put a blob of silicone sealant at one end.

    Hi Kit, very interested to know why you prefer to use a line cord strimmer rather than fitting a metal brush cutting blade. I have a Honda Strimmer but always tend to use a metal blade ?.

    • @GrowWithKit
      @GrowWithKit 13 днів тому

      I find the cord mulches the grass down a lot more and it disappears quicker, I do use the blade when there are thicker weeds and brambles. Also the blade is less forgiving if I hit one of my trees, I’ve also gone through the fence before with the blade but the cord doesn’t damage it.

    Can you paint concrete ?

    • @debragrieve9402
      @debragrieve9402 23 дні тому

      You can. Ask for masonry paint. You can also add colorant for cement during mixing, or there are products for staining concrete. I think your stains can be almost any color. Unlike color additives while mixing. Paint sits on top of the surface, but stain penetrates the surface. I hope this helps.

    • @GrowWithKit
      @GrowWithKit 13 днів тому

      Yes you can, just make sure you clean all the dust and residue off and let it fully dry. It doesn’t have to be masonry paint but it is the best. I’ve used fence paint and various spray paints, all seem fine on the concrete.
